About Us

The Gulf AI Monitor is an independent, non-partisan initiative established to track, analyze, and explain the development and deployment of AI across the Gulf Cooperation Council and the broader Middle East.

It aims to provide reliable, timely data and insights on the pressing questions facing AI in the region, held to rigorous scholarly standards.

The Gulf has become a central arena in the global AI race. Sovereign wealth funds are deploying hundreds of billions into data centers and frontier model development. Washington and Beijing are competing for partnerships that will define the region's technological architecture for a generation.

Gulf AI Monitor aim to cover that transformation with the depth it demands, by drawing on primary sources in Arabic, English, and Chinese to capture developments across the critical AI ecosystems globally.

We are new. As we get up and running, we are pursuing two missions. The first is a rigorous scholarly publication producing regular analysis on AI policy, investment, infrastructure, governance, safety, and great-power competition in the Gulf. It is open to AI-focused researchers and scholars. We actively invite contributions from those working at the frontier of these questions.

The second is a full-stack data layer built for investors, researchers, policymakers, and governments. It visualizes data center buildouts, maps model deployments and investments, tracks adjacent industries including semiconductors, and charts the footprint of American and Chinese capital across the region, designed to give a bird's-eye view of the ecosystem with the ability to descend quickly into the detail.
