Data Center Strikes in the 2026 Iran War

AI Infrastructure targeting during Operation Epic Fury

AI infrastructure has been targeted as part of the broader Iran conflict. The map records twelve incidents since 28 February 2026: nine Iranian attacks or attributed actions involving Amazon Web Services, Batelco-hosted infrastructure, and an Oracle building in Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates, alongside three reported attacks on Iranian data centers in Tehran. Together, they show how commercial cloud capacity, national telecommunications networks, and infrastructure supporting military and economic activity increasingly overlap.

The pattern is concentrated most heavily in Bahrain, where Iranian drones and missiles repeatedly targeted AWS availability zones and Batelco-hosted sites. Four attacks between 18 and 24 July remained absent from non-Iranian reporting for approximately a week and entered the wider public record only after Bloomberg published satellite analysis and ACLED released its event coding. The delay demonstrates the difference between what observers could establish as events unfolded and what became verifiable later.

No Gulf incident in the dataset struck a dedicated AI training or inference cluster. The targeted facilities provided general-purpose cloud, connectivity, and data-processing capacity. Their relevance to AI lies in the dual-use character of this infrastructure, the IRGC’s claim that it supported US military intelligence processing, and Iran’s unrealized threat against the Stargate campus in Abu Dhabi. Verification remains uneven: some incidents were confirmed by operators or host governments, while others rely on satellite imagery, conflict-monitor records, press reporting, or contested official claims.

Use Current verified record to display the fullest account that can now be substantiated and Known at the time to show only incidents that were publicly visible when they occurred. The four late-July Bahrain attacks are removed from the latter view. Select any marker to inspect the facility, owner, attacker, reported munition, damage assessment, confidence level, verification path, incident record, and principal source. Locations are approximate, and open squares represent Bahrain incidents for which no precise site has been publicly identified.
